Went to 'Shani Dev ji's' temple today in the morning before commencing our journey to the capital of the nation, New Delhi.
There, i actually observed a rather disturbing, but a very true scenario of people's thinking. Although, its quite common now, but it took my attention for the very first time in my life.
We were just outside the temple when the curtains were rolled down. It meant that the aarti was just about to begin, & as you all must be knowing, it takes time for aarti to finish & then only the curtains will be rolled up. So, with this process in progress, the priest of the temple, there, was performing his daily rituals- standing in front of every sculpture one by one & then said his prayers. One of the sculpture was actually outside the premises. So, he went outside tearing the mass of devotees, which had gathered by then. & that's when my mind opened up & looked beyond what actually was visible. The priest was taking a bit too long outside. Everyone had their faces towards the main sculpture, 180 degrees from the main gate, from where the priest was to enter. So, every time the bell behind, in d last row, was rung, everyone looked back with a glitter of hope that the priest has arrived & the aarti would commence any moment now (since the aarti is always complemented with the ringing of bells), hence they can see their GOD, pray for whatever they had been desiring & leave as soon as possible, since it was taking there precious time out of their extremely busy schedules. But to their dismay, thrice they looked back, & thrice, they were left disappointed with yet another desperate devotee entering the temple & ringing the bell. By the time the priest arrived & rang the bell, a couple of them had left & one more was about to. When he rang the bell, many of them again looked back with hope & you could easily sense their happiness because one of their most important, recent wishes, to their GOD (which surely must have been to send in the priest as soon as possible) was fulfilled. Now i could see a glow in their eyes which was much much greater than what i saw after they had their offerings done to their GOD(s). Everyone was pushing to get first in the line.
Now, the situation i just described which took almost 2K words & 27 mins of writing longed just 4mins. & everyone was just so desperate to try not to waste those 4mins. & why not, since it was for their own selfish interest. They can waste half an hour waking up late, 15mins extra applying soap onto every body part, 10mins extra on eating the regular breakfast, but...but they don't have 5mins for their respective GOD(s), from whom they expect every of their wishes to be fulfilled in any situation they put GOD in.
That's how much selfish this world has made us, or...or, it might just be the other way round- that's how much selfish we've made the world around us today.
So, are we actually living in a selfish world?
A firm YES. A selfish world we ourselves created.
